Dot NAME Domain Names

Launched in 2001, the .NAME generic TLD is the only one meant for personal sites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other designations people are popular by. At the beginning, solely third-level registrations were possible, so if you wanted to purchase john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already acquired third-level domain names remained running.
